VM4 4 days

Visceral Manipulation 4 — The Thorax

The thoracic cavity, respiration mechanics and the organs of the chest.

Open the thoracic cavity with precision — pleura, lungs, heart, mediastinum, thyroid — and learn to differentiate somatic from visceral causes in the upper body.

VM4 takes you into the thoracic cavity with the same rigor VM1–VM3 applied to the abdomen and pelvis. You will examine the visceral fascia of the throat and thorax and explore how structural frameworks and soft tissues collaborate in respiration and thoracic movement. Special attention is placed on the pleura, lungs, pericardium, heart, mediastinum, thyroid, trachea, esophagus, sternum, rib cage and thoracic plexuses. You will develop specific soft-tissue release techniques for the thoracic inlet, learn listening techniques adapted to the thorax, and build the ability to differentiate somatic from visceral causes of thoracic, cervical and upper-extremity dysfunction.

What you will learn

  • Work the visceral fascia of the throat and thoracic cavity
  • Understand thoracic organ anatomy, biomechanics and function
  • Release the thoracic inlet and its connections to shoulder girdle and cervical spine
  • Differentiate somatic from visceral causes of thoracic and spinal dysfunction
