Polyvagal Manual Therapy
Integrate polyvagal theory with manual therapy to address autonomic nervous system regulation.
Polyvagal Manual Therapy (PVMT1) integrates Stephen Porges' polyvagal framework with specific manual work on the vagus nerve, cardiac plexus, diaphragm and the abdominal vagal field. It is the formal clinical meeting point between two traditions — polyvagal neuroscience and Barral manual therapy — that had been evolving in parallel and converged over the last decade. PVMT is most useful for practitioners working with chronic autonomic dysregulation, trauma populations and functional gastrointestinal disorders.
Who this track is for
- Practitioners treating patients with chronic autonomic dysregulation
- Clinicians working with trauma populations alongside psychotherapy referral
- Manual therapists interested in the vagus nerve and interoception
- Practitioners with VM1, VM2 and NM1 seeking an integrative advanced track
Prerequisites and progression
Prerequisites: VM1, VM2 and NM1. PVMT1 is typically taken after the practitioner has some clinical experience with autonomic or trauma populations, where its integration with the Barral framework is most productive.
